Professor Charl Vorster, the co-founder of Satori, obtained his BA at the University of the then Orange Free State. His honours degree in Psychology was obtained at the University of Pretoria. His masters training was done at the University of South Africa where he obtained the degree with distinction. This was followed by a doctorate at the same university. In addition he was informally trained at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands and Warwick University in Coventry, UK. For the past 30 odd years he has trained masters and doctoral students in Clinical Psychology at the University of South Africa, the then Rand Afrikaans University, University of Namibia (Head of Department) and the University of Limpopo (Ga-Rankuwa Campus). He is at present also Professor Extraordinary at the University of North West. In addition to his academic and clinical tuition he has also been involved in part-time clinical practice and in running team building and leadership development courses for the corporate sector. He has a special passion for interactional psychotherapy and the training and facilitating of effective psychotherapists.
Co-Founder & Head of Training
MSc Clin Psych
The co-founder & head of training, Larissa Ernst obtained her Bachelors qualification in Psychology at the University of Pretoria, where she also obtained her honours degree. This was followed by an internship in Psychometry after which she entered into supervised practice as a Psychometrist. On an extra-mural basis Larissa completed the necessary additional courses through the University of South Africa to obtain BPsych status and then proceeded to work as a supervised intern counsellor. She was about to register as a Psychological Counsellor when she was successfully selected for Masters training. She obtained her Masters in Clinical Psychology at the University of Limpopo (Ga-Rankuwa Campus). Following this she completed her one year Community Service at the Department of Health and Social Welfare, Tswaing Sub-District, North West. She subsequently entered into private practice and also became involved in group facilitation and training. Larissa has been a part-time lecturer at the University of Pretoria’s Department of Occupational Therapy since 2011, where she provides training in Person-Centred Counselling as well as Communication’s training. She also provides clinical supervision for intern psychologists and registered psychologists. In 2013 Larissa obtained her Certificate in Family Law from the University of North West (Potchefstroom) with distinction. She is currently also engaged in research for her doctorate.
Dr. Alda de Wet
MA Clin Psych; PhD
Senior Trainer, Dr. Alda de Wet obtained her MA (Clin Psych) cum laude at the then Rand Afrikaanse University and her PhD from the University of Limpopo (Medunsa Campus).
She has been working as a registered clinical psychologist in private practice since 1988, specializing in interpersonal dynamics and group processes as they manifest in individuals, between couples and families as well as in groups. In addition she had been extensively involved as a senior lecturer in training of Master Degree students in Clinical Psychology, in a full-time as well as a part time capacity, at the Medical University of South Africa. She is still involved in a consultant capacity as lecturer at the University of South Africa and North West. She is also involved as a supervisor of senior students and qualified clinicians and registered as such with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. Within the corporate context she facilitates leadership development, team building as well as multi cultural groups, addressing aspects such as stereotyping, discrimination and prejudice. She is also involved, on a part-time basis, as a consultant and trainer at the Satori Centre for Psychotherapy Training.
Senior Trainer, Dr. Warwick D. Phipps completed his Master of Science in Clinical Psychology, (Summa) Cum Laude, in 1994. He was awarded hi Doctor of Philosophy in 2004. He has been in Private Practice for 15 years. During this time, he also lectured at the University of Limpopo, Medunsa Campus, in the Department of Clinical Psychology in the Master’s programme. He continues to supervise students and registered psychologists alike. His special interests lie in the fields of family therapy, hypnotherapy, and psychological assessment. Furthermore, he has authored papers and has presented at various international conferences, including the American Psychological Association (APA) and the International Family Therapy Association (IFTA). He serves on the editorial board of two international journals, namely, the journal of Marital and Family Therapy (JMFT), and he is also the Guest Editor of the formal journal for the 2013 Special Issue: Systems Family Therapy.

Senior Trainer, Linda Dennis obtained her Bachelors qualification in Psychology and Philosophy at RHODES University in Grahamstown. She obtained her Honours degree in Psychology through the University of South Africa (UNISA) and her Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Limpopo (MEDUNSA Campus). She has been working as a Registered Clinical Psychologist in private practice since 2002, with a special interest and passion in Teddy Bear Therapy (TBT). In addition she has been involved as a senior lecturer in the training of Masters Degree students in Clinical Psychology, on a part-time basis, at the University of Limpopo (MEDUNSA Campus). She has also provided supervision to intern counsellors working with children in various contexts. Within the corporate sector she assists companies with the design and implementation of Employee Wellness Programs. She is currently also involved in the setting up and establishing of an organisation that will focus on the training and supervision of psychologists working in the field of Business Psychology.
Workshop Coordinator in Durban

Satori workshop coordinator in Durban, Jake Pieterse obtained his Master’s in Clinical Psychology at the University of Pretoria. Jake is in full time private practice where his focus is on psychotherapy. His inspiration and enthusiasm is well known in the Durban area, where he has been working in private practice, full-time ministry and disadvantaged communities for more than 25 years. Community work is his heart and he has been involved in the inception of a number of non profit organizations and serves on the boards of two PBO’s.
Workshop Coordinator in Cape Town

Satori workshop coordinator in Cape Town,Petrus Theron obtained the degrees BA (Hons) cum laude and MA (Clinical Psychology) at the RAU (now UJ); he also obtained M.Th. (Pastoral Theology) at the University of Stellenbosch. He worked for several years as a clinical psychologist at the Chamber of Mines in Welkom and Rustenburg after which he accepted a position as clinical psychologist/pastoral therapist at the Ramot centre for the treatment of alcohol and other drug addiction. He was subsequently promoted to Director of the centre and remained in that position for 18 years. He was, inter alia, responsible for the development of the treatment programme and supervision of the therapists as well as individual consultations with patients. He is currently in private practice and is also involved in establishing a pastoral counselling facility at a local church.
